Retreats will take place at the beautiful Empowerment Center in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, 1.5 hours from NYC.

Featuring gourmet vegetarian and vegan food by legendary Chef Rami using fresh ingredients from organic garden on premisis!

In addition to drumming classes there will be daily yoga and meditation.

Retreat begins after 5:00 on the first day and ends at 1:00 on last day.

Middle Eastern Drumming Retreat

Glen Velez is the legendary frame drum virtuoso who founded the modern Frame Drum Movement.  We are thrilled to have him joining us for the first time to teach frame drum and riq!
Raquy will teach Dumbek and Percussion ensemble.  Also, Mongolian Throat Singing workshop by Liron Peled!


July 6- 10
Dumbek Intensive 
This retreat is for serious dumbek players who want to be immersed in intensive training for four days. Raquy will teach the latest moves that she's been learning from the darbuka masters in Istanbul using the Turkish Split Hand Technique as well as soloing, composition and accompaniment.

July 1 - 10
All Ten Days -   "Dumbek Fever Special"
Whoever would like to do both retreats is welcome to stay for the whole ten days.  There will be no official classes on July 5th, but chef Rami will still be doing his thing.  It will be a great time to rest, practice and enjoy the beatuful nature.  Plus those who stay will get to enjoy Chef Rami's  4th of July BBQ!

- Take upper deck of George Washington Bridge to Palisades Parkway North
- Take Palisades Parkway North to Exit 18, exit from LEFT lane
- Continue to traffic circle
- Make second RIGHT off traffic circle for route 6 West / Route 17 West
- Exit Route 17 at Chester / Florida, Exit 126
- Take exit ramp, make right at traffic light at end of ramp
- about .2 of a mile
- Turn LEFT onto 17M West / Brookside Avenue
- go about 2 miles
- You will pass Owen Murphy Restaurant on your right
You will pass Hacienda Restaurant on your left At the Golf Driving Range…..
- Turn RIGHT onto Old Chester Road
- go about .07 of a mile (NOT marked with a road sign!)
- At Stop sign make an immediate
RIGHT turn onto Knoell Road Go about .4 of a mile
- You will see a small sign straight ahead of you that says:
Child Development Migrant Headstart
- Turn right onto Broadlea Road
- go about .5 pf a mile, up a winding road
- Take the first RIGHT turn (small sign for The Empowerment Center)
You will see a stone building up on your right, The Empowerment Center.
- Make a LEFT turn into the parking lot opposite The Empowerment Center.

VIA 87 Major Deegan / NY State Thruway and 17W:

- Take 87 Major Deegan Expressway North towards Albany
- Go over Tappan Zee Bridge and continue on 87 North
- Take exit 16 for Harriman / Route 17
- Merge onto 17W
- Take exit 126 for Chester / Florida and 17M
- Take exit ramp, make right at traffic light at end of ramp
- about .2 of a mile
- Take first LEFT onto 17M West / Brookside Avenue
- go about 2 miles
